1. Overview

OriginAl is a Chrome extension that detects AI-generated content on web pages using mathematical text analysis. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data is processed, where, and why.

2. Data We Collect

When you use OriginAl, we collect the following data:

• Email, user ID, and display name: Collected via Supabase Auth when you register or log in (via Google OAuth or Magic Link)
• Subscription plan: Your current plan (free/pro/business) is stored in your profile
• Authentication tokens: Access and refresh tokens are saved locally in your browser (chrome.storage.local) to maintain your session

3. Text Analysis (Main Function)

When OriginAl analyzes text on a web page:

• The text is processed to determine if it was likely generated by AI
• In most cases, analysis happens locally in your browser
• For ambiguous cases ("gray zone"), the text is sent to our backend and forwarded to Anthropic (Claude API) for deeper analysis
• In this standard analysis process, the text is NOT stored: it is processed and discarded immediately after returning the result (score/label)
• Results may be cached locally in your browser (chrome.storage.local) for up to 24 hours to avoid re-analyzing the same content

4. Transparency Cards

When you explicitly choose to create a "Transparency Card" to share a result:

• The analyzed text (up to 5,000 characters) IS saved permanently in our database (Supabase), along with the score, label (AI/Human), and user ID
• This storage happens ONLY upon your explicit action (creating the card), never automatically during normal analysis

5. User Preferences

Your settings (sensitivity level, Quiet Mode) are saved locally via chrome.storage.sync. These preferences may sync across your Chrome devices via your Google account, subject to Google's own privacy policy. We do not have access to this data.

6. Permissions Explained

• activeTab: Read text on the current tab for analysis
• scripting: Inject the analysis script into web pages
• storage: Save preferences and cache results locally
• <all_urls>: AI content appears on any website, not only a predefined list. We only read text — we never modify, store, or transmit page structure or user data.

7. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to provide OriginAl:

• Supabase: Provides authentication, database, and storage for your account and the Transparency Cards you create. Subject to Supabase's privacy policy.
• Anthropic (Claude API): Receives text in gray-zone analysis cases to provide more accurate analysis. Subject to Anthropic's privacy policy.
• Lemon Squeezy: Handles payments for Pro/Business subscriptions. Subject to Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy.

8. What We Do NOT Do

• We do not sell or transfer your data to third parties for advertising purposes
• We do not share data with data brokers or advertising platforms
• We do not use your data to determine creditworthiness
• We do not track your browsing history or visited URLs beyond the text you choose to analyze

9. Children's Privacy

OriginAl is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the extension evolves. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance.
